Locality

I want to buy a house in thane. Can someone please tell me which are the good and developed localities?
Q. I want to buy it in a good locality near the railway station(say within 4 kms maximum). I dont know anything about Thane so please suggest some localities.

A. You will have to contact a broker as without broker no deals are done in Mumbai,however you can also contact builders,but it is always advisable to approach the builder also thru' a broker & see all the saleable flats there & choose as per desired locality.I have some contacts in thane but they will also advise the same.

Isn't it funny how proponents of local government cheer the Arizona law that took power away from localities?
Q. Under Arizona law now cities can be sued for choosing their own policing priorities. For example, if they want to focus on drug crimes or violent crimes or something, they get sued for not focusing on some nonviolen, victimless administraive violation. How do proponents of small government, local rights square their beliefs with a law that takes away the ability of local communities to set their own law enforcement priorities?

What can I do if our office is closed and moved to a lower locality pay area just to save money?
Q. Our federal agency is looking to cut spending wherever possible. One thing they re looking at is moving two of our offices from their current locations to areas that have a much lower locality pay . If this happens, is there anything the employees can do to fight the 10% or so pay cut they will be taking by being forced to move to another location?

A. First things first, get yourself a Federal Employees Almanac. A new one is issued every year which explains in detail every rule that applies to federal employees. They are typically 350 pages long and written in small print. One can be purchased here. To answer your question; no, you can't do anything about it. Locality pay is considered separate from your regular rate of pay except when calculating your benefits. Ideally, the change in locality pay should not adversely affect you because the cost-of-living in the new location will be lower.
